Read this if your a man [TW]
Men aren't heard when they are suffering with their mentality. Instead of being heard, they are told to "man up" or that "men don't cry." Here are my thoughts on that.
I have a couple of guy friends and some who silently suffer from a mental illness. One of them recently went to the hospital because of an attempt. He seemed perfectly fine the last time we talked which shows that depression is a silent killer. But I feel like with men it's more silent. They hide their sadness so well. Men are shut out when it comes to them talking about their needs. Some are told that no one cares because there men. Often fathers are the ones that tell their sons that men don't cry. Probably because emotion wasn't a factor when they were growing up.
I don't know the gender of who views my blog but if you are a male and you're silently suffering please speak up. It's easier said than done but there are people out there who love you and want to see you thriving and living your life. You matter too. Men are as important as women. I want you to know that it's okay to not be okay. You might want to be strong because you're the man of the house or you're the glue to the family picture but just know sometimes that glue wears out but that doesn't mean the family picture will completely fall apart. You will need new glue, glue that is stronger. Be the strong glue!
Speak to whomever you can in your family about the war in your mind and allow them to help you. If you feel like they won't, there are many other people in your life that will. You can't tell me that there is nobody in your life that won't let you cry on your shoulder? And also remember man it's okay to cry. Crying shows how strong you are to let out your true feelings. Don't let that stigma get in the way of you living out your true mentally positive life.
Lastly, if you have a close friend that is a male or have a brother or husband or father please check up on them. They could be going through something that you know nothing about. Like I said depression is a silent killer. Don't let them go through it alone.
